Principal’s Message
“May the Sacred Heart of Jesus Be Everywhere Loved – forever”
We are a community of the heart, living and learning together. The ideals of the early pioneer Sisters and the charism of the founder of the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Fr Jules Chevalier have for over 100 years guided our spirituality and mission as a college community and will continue to do so well into the future.
The college is preparing our young women for an unknown future and this calls for a future-focused school, one that provides a learning environment that develops faith-filled, adaptive thinkers who influence our society for the greater good. In an environment of growth and opportunity, our young women are offered dynamic, organic and interconnected learning experiences as we seek out opportunities to partner with industry, agencies and tertiary institutions, so students are engaged in active, authentic, inquiry-based learning experiences.
We are a community proud of our inclusive and nurturing environment where young women are encouraged to be brave and confidently push themselves beyond their limits in and out of the classroom. Our young women are not afraid to take risks and grow from their experiences and adventures. Such bravery will at times bring disappointment and setbacks. However, we cannot learn without failing, it is in this experience of failure that we develop and grow becoming the best version of ourselves.
This cultivation of a growth mindset in every student, where our learners are empowered and learning is personalised in a holistic environment, is at the heart of who we are as a community. We collaborate with students to develop their wellbeing, spirituality, physicality, and emotional and academic intelligence as our staff aspire to instil within each and every girl a sense of deep worth and Catholic values that will equip them to bravely face the challenges that life will inevitably bring, and act courageously as global citizens beyond our college walls.
I invite you to scroll through our website and social media pages, and come and experience our college in person on our open days.

Principal

The story of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College begins earlier than its foundation in 1913. The Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart was formed in Issoudun, France in 1874. The college espouses the mission of Father Jules Chevalier to make the Sacred Heart of Jesus everywhere loved.
In 1884, Mother Superior Marie Louise Hartzer was instrumental in sending five Sisters to the Oceanic Missions. When the first section of the new convent was completed in 1897, a small combined primary and secondary college was conducted in the convent premises. The college was co-educational.
A continual growth in the number of students led to the construction of a new college building erected in 1913. Records indicate that 1927 was the last year for the enrolment of boys at the college. The primary section was discontinued at the end of 1953. From then on the primary-aged students attended Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Primary School. The college joined the emerging archdiocesan system in 1966 and the first lay principal joined the college in 1995 following the departure of the last religious college principal, Sister Mary Fyfe.

Our Mission
As a Catholic community of the heart, we strive to give expression to God’s unconditional love for each person, through our compassionate response to others. As an educational community we strive to engender a passion for lifelong learning.
Our Vision
Under the patronage of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and inspired by the charism of Fr Jules Chevalier, our community endeavours to be the heart and hands of Jesus in the world. Accordingly, the OLSH College vision is that of ‘A Community of the Heart, Living and Learning Together.’
Our Values
At OLSH we lead with HEART in everything we do. Heart has meaning for us, since it relates our charism to the modern day values of Honour, Excellence, Action, Resilience and Teamwork, as shown in our 4 OLSH pillars.

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College has a strong relationship with our closest feeder parish, Our Lady of the Rosary Kensington.
Since its establishment in 1906, Our Lady of the Rosary Kensington has been ministered by the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. The parish has been and continues to be very much developed, animated and inspired by the charism and spirituality of the MSC Founder, Fr. Jules Chevalier.
Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Administrator, Fr. Peter Hearn MSC is our College Chaplain.

- Relevant liturgy and retreat experiences
- A spirit of reflection
2. We are Heart people who Revere Relationships

- Hospitality and a welcoming spirit
- Gratitude, simplicity, integrity, compassion and forgiveness
- Inclusion of all
- Collaboration and consultation
- Discernment and the sharing of wisdom
- Teams and team leadership
3. We are Heart people who Pursue Excellence
We believe in Jesus’ words “I have come that you may have life and have it to the full” (John 10:10). We pursue excellence in everything we do. So we value:
- Striving for our personal best
- Academic achievement
- Creativity, resilience and perseverance
- Education of the whole person and life-long learning
- Critical thinking and the provision of a dynamic curriculum
- Pushing the boundaries of our capabilities
- The development of leadership skills
4. We are Heart people who Touch the Hearts of Others
We believe in our call to be united with the mission of Jesus. Together we seek to build the Kingdom of truth and life, of holiness and grace, of justice, love and peace. Our tradition of service and outreach and our option for the poor are vital aspects of our OLSH identity. So we value:
- A vision that dares to be different
- Courage, hope, determination and vitality
- Global responsibility and stewardship of creation
- Reconciliation with our indigenous brothers and sisters
- Reaching out to others, locally and globally
- Leadership that serves and empowers others
