Central to the religious life of the school is the person of Jesus Christ who came among us ‘as one who serves’ (Luke 22.27). Our Catholic school is committed to reaching out to help those in need, through charitable outreach initiatives. All outreach activities connect to the person of Jesus Christ and to the sacraments, especially the Eucharist. Drawing on the Catholic Social Teaching of the Church, we have a deep commitment to supporting a range of charitable organisations, families and individuals in need.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College is committed to empowering students to make a difference in their world through social justice initiatives across Years 7–12. We are guided by St Mary of the Cross MacKillop’s directive to “never see a need without doing something about it.” We live this out through engaging with a range of Catholic ministries that include: the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, St Vincent de Paul and Caritas.
Our outreach extends beyond our local community with support given to disadvantaged communities in Greater Sydney, and through immersion opportunities to Bathurst Island in the Northern Territory with the Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart.
We recognise that often it is in giving that we receive, and these opportunities inspire and empower our students to be people of hope. We aspire to make a difference in the world, through acting justly, loving tenderly and walking humbly with our God.
